The Chapel

The Chapel at Churchill College is ecumenical and provides a locus for Christian worship for everyone in the College community and beyond.

The Chapel is usually open for private prayer, meditation and quiet. People also use it for music practice, especially on the piano. There is a corner with easy chairs with a bookcase with key texts from world religions, classical philosophy, and more contemporary secular authors. The chapel can be opened with your room key, or if you live out (or if you are in one of the recently renovated staircases), a key can be borrowed from the Porters.

The chapel can be booked for use by Christian groups for prayer and Bible study. Other groups can also book it for appropriate activities. Please see the booking page, where there is a form to fill in.

The Chaplain is the Rev’d Canon Nigel Cooper. He is available via email to hear from fellows, students and staff of the College on any matter with which he may be able to help. He is usually in College on Monday mornings, Thursday afternoons  and Sunday evenings in Full Term.

Finding the Chapel

The Chapel is located at the far west end of the college site, located a short walk from the College upper car park, at the “top” of the Private Road.

Visitors arriving by car can use the upper car park when attending an event in the Chapel.

Please note that if you are arriving by taxi, the Chapel is a full ten minutes walk from the Porters’ Lodge. We recommend that visitors ask their taxi or Uber driver to drive along the Private Road (from Storey’s Way). Passengers can disembark at the western end of the Sheppard Flats (just before arriving in the upper car park), and the Chapel can then be reached along a paved pathway (walking in the direction of Madingley Road).
